Spring is my favorite season for the lone reason that labels seem to push the best releases before the summertime tour rush. Finding it hard to keep up with all the amazing tuneage that has been released in the last few months.
Telekinesis- 12 desperate straight lines
Michael Lerner is a master of catchy pop! I love pretty much every track on this new album.
Please Ask for help has gotten a ton of replay time in my lil' office. They were just in Toronto and I caught them at the 'Shoe to a surprisingly small crowd. I was under the assumption that they had a larger following due to their awesome-ness, however disapointing the crowd was, the band was not. The bands awkward charm and stage presence fit their Nerd-Rock persona perfectly. (See below and try to tell me you don't fall in love just a little)
Say Hi - Um, uh Oh
I love Say Hi, this track exemplifies their ability to churn out a great melancholy love tune. Not to mention the charm of a simplistic stripped down track, the type that Say Hi does oh so well.
Lykke Li- Wounded Rhymes
I can't say that I am in love with this entire album, though the track above is beautiful. Youth Novels is one of my favorite albums, so when the first release 'Get Some' came out you can understand why I was a bit urked. 'I'm your prostitute, you gonna get some' left me a little confused, bad lyrical translation from the Swedish beauty or impersonating her inner-Britney? I read a really great interview in Spin where Lykke said she was hurt when people described Youth Novels as 'poppy' so I can understand the direction she took with the followup album, just don't know if I'm completely sold.
TV on the Radio - Nine Types of Light
Completely sold on this track. 'A heart doesn't play by rules and love makes it's own demands' Can't wait for the album to drop on my birthday ! :)
Eisley- The Valley
This disc is a compilation of beautiful breakup anthems. The bright side to a broken heart is that it always translates to a beautiful sound.
Older stuff that is still AMAZING :
The Chain Gang of 1974- Hold on
This isn't a new release, but I just discovered it so I'm going to add it to the list. This catchy dance tune is hypnotic. Passion Pit meets Empire of the Sun!
James Vincent Mcmorrow
I recently discovered this Irish gem. Bon Iver soulful style vocalist. Love it.
