Phoenix, a french phenomenon. I saw them @ Bonnarroo and was pumped they were heading to Canada for another round. A friend of mine promised to get tickets as soon as I found out I had a (rare) Sat. free of work. Two days before the show I was ticketless and still pumped. Queen of the craigslist ticket ring, i managed to grab a ticket not so outrageously overpriced.(Curse those damn hipsters for catching onto a decent band and in turn influxing the prices .....) In an effort to save the cash I spent in excess for the ticket I wandered to the show in the Port Area of Toronto in the dark. Sheets of ice and black sleet marked my path and i cursed out loud thinking of all the horror stories my mother told me about walking solo in the dark. A high contrast to the last time I saw PHX in the blistering TN heat, hopped up on god knows what, wearing a bikini and bopping around. My parka pulled tight around me in a Canadian winter I have to admit I had second thoughts..
Bless the whoever, I didn't turn around. By far the best show I've seen in my life. Perfecting on their set, and an album that is most definitely one of the best pop albums of this year, PHX did nothin but impress.. If I thought Thomas Mars impressed from 200 m away in TN by jumpin into the crowd during their last tune, i was over the moon to have him 20 m away ontop of the bar where i had two seconds ago purchased a vodka soda, belting out 1901. More over the fact that he managed to jump ONTO the crowd and 'swim' back onto stage was more than enough to make this show one of the best i've ever seen...
(video proof of this '
swimming' - i shot this . lovely)
Advice........ PHX shows up in your hometown.. be sure to catch em!!
